18 extortion call victims get protection

The police provided round the clock protection to 18 people, including businessman Raj Kundra, Karim Morani and actor Shahrukh Khan after they got threatening calls from a fugitive gangster last month.

The police said that these people not entertaining the gangster's calls now, so he is calling on their office number for extortion.The police said that apart from these 18 people, no one else received extortion calls in recent past.The crime branch of Mumbai police collected details of the gangster’s associates in the city and jail. They are keeping close eye on their activities. The police are trying to trace people who provides logistic supports to the gangster’s men in the city.The police took the threatening calls serious after the gangster’s men fired bullet outside Morani’s residence at Juhu on August 23. No one was injured in the incident. After the firing, Morani received an SMS on his mobile phone where the fugitive threatened him with dire consequences.Morani, seen as being close to Shahrukh Khan, runs one of Bollywood's biggest event management companies, Cineyug Entertainment, which organizes shows abroad for the major stars.The gangster wanted Shahrukh to stage a promotional show of his latest film in USA for free. The gangster was under impression that the shows were being handled by Morani's company.
